Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Care

When I first opened my office twenty years ago, most of my patients looked at massage therapy as a luxury. We would pamper ourselves by going to a spa, luxury club, or even a retreat and receive a massage. Since then more and more patients have realized massage therapy is so much more.

Massage therapy has become a go-to for many professional athletes. You can now find a certified massage therapist in many Chiropractic and Physical Therapy offices.

Massage therapy is a highly effective treatment for fibromyalgia, muscle stiffness, joint pain, headaches, and stress. It’s an easy and natural method to care for our bodies, experience a sense of relaxation and a feeling of renewal.

One of the questions I am often asked by my patients is “Should I get a massage?”. My response is “Absolutely!.  As a Chiropractor, I know that massage therapy works synergistically with a chiropractic adjustment. The looser my patient is when I adjust them, the longer the patient will maintain their chiropractic adjustment

The overall wellness benefits when the art of massage therapy is combined with regular chiropractic adjustments is immense. These two complimentary treatments were made to be performed together.

How Does Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Adjustments Work Together?

Chiropractic adjustments aim to treat joint restrictions in the body and spine by fostering proper alignment. Using gentle pressure and controlled force you chiropractor performs adjustments to reduce inflammation and pain while promoting the improvement of the nervous system and overall joint function.

The art of Massage Therapy focuses on the muscles and tendons throughout the body. Massage techniques are designed to manipulate the body’s muscles in tendons to relieve pain and inflammation.

By combining the two therapies you are treating both the skeletal and musculoskeletal systems of the body and boosting the communication between your nervous system, spinal cord, and muscles.

When your muscles are loosened and relaxed after a massage therapy treatment, performing chiropractic adjustments is more beneficial and effective which leads to greater and longer inflammation and pain relief. Proper joint alignment promotes faster healing of the soft tissues treated with massage therapy.

Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Adjustments make the perfect pair of treatments. Together they improve flexibility, increase blood flow, boost your immune system and improve the body’s range of motion.

Routine Chiropractic Care with Massage Therapy Treatment Plan

Chiropractic care is based upon providing a primary health care option without the repeated and heavy use of prescription drugs for pain relief. The combination of massage therapy and chiropractic adjustment is an ideal method for supporting and upholding the commitment to a more natural approach of pain relief while considering the patient’s overall health and wellness.

Dr. Will offers his patients the convenience of receiving both treatments in-office from the same practitioner. First massage therapy is performed on the patient to manually relax the muscles and reduce nerve compression. Immediately following, manual manipulation of the vertebrae and neck is performed resulting in a higher level of function and relaxation then if the treatments are performed separately.

If you would like to explore if a combination treatment plan of chiropractic adjustment and massage therapy is the best option to relieve pain and inflammation for you, schedule your wellness consult with Dr. Will.
